The Geologic Time Scale is a record of geologic events and life that happened on earth. It is split into eras and periods. Scientists developed it by studying rock layers and fossils. Radioactive dating helped determine absolute age. Relative Age is about how old something is. Changes in life forms in the fossil record help scientists decide when one era ends. Examples are extinction, evolution, and animal domination. Those changes are the end and beginning of a new era.
